Workshop 8, Part B

Informal Geometry for Elementary Students

Informal Geometry, Part B, is the study of the types of triangles, quadrilaterals, and three-dimensional figures.  Part B begins where Part A ends.

Informal Geometry, Part B:

Concepts taught at this workshop are mapped to student expectations from Principles and Standards for School Mathematics, 2000, page 396.

Students will:

  • name, describe, draw, and build triangles and quadrilaterals;
  • know the relationship between two-dimensional and three-dimensional figures;
  • name, describe, and draw the representation of three-dimensional figures;
  • design nets for all types of three-dimensional figures;
  • create mental images of geometric shapes using spatial memory and spatial visualization.

Who Should Attend This Two Day Workshop:  3rd - 6th grade teachers and all support staff

Teachers will receive:  second part of the geometry dictionary with student workbook, dot cards

Please bring:    dictionary, workbook, and popsicle models from Geometry Part A, along with the rest of the supplies listed in the workshop description for Part A.
